2019 Geneva International Motor Show

GIMS has got to be one of the most exciting automotive events in the world. It is the place where manufacturers show their newest cars for the first time, along with priceless classics, ultra futuristic concepts and everything in between. The prestigious show also features a variety of tuners showcasing crazily modified autos.

I was given the chance to attend the press days this year. It was a truly amazing experience right from the minute I first walked into the show. The first stand I visited was, naturally, Koenigsegg, to check out their brand new hypercar called Jesko. This absolutely stunning Agera successor is an engineering masterpiece, powered by a seven-clutch gearbox producing roughly 1 600 horsepower. One highlight of the car is the name, Jesko is the first name of Koenigsegg founder’s father and a special tribute paid to him by his son. Both Jesko and Christian were present at the car’s global premiere, along with the rest of the Koenigsegg family.

It is a true family-run business. Another highlight of the show has got to be the rather controversial Bugatti one-off “La Voiture Noire” (the black car in French). Although it may not be the prettiest car in the world, it most
certainly was an enormous attention grabber. Oh, and it is the most expensive new automobile ever produced, priced at the rather large sum of US$1 9 million. Good news though, tax is included.

The show also featured some other premieres, such as the new Ferrari F8 Tributo, though none of them have impressed me as much as Pagani’s stand. This could very well be caused by the fact that I am quite a massive fan of the brand. Horacio Pagani and his team have taken a bit of a different approach than other manufacturers and decided to bring the very first Pagani Zonda C1 2 ever produced as a part of their 20th anniversary celebration. It has already been 20 years since this stunning hypercar was first released, yet almost a quarter of a century later it still looks very modern and even futuristic. It has not aged at all, thanks to its timeless and brave design. Pagani also showed the new Huayra Roadster, but I found that nowhere near as exciting as their original creation. The original Zonda gives us a glimpse of how timeless hypercars really are.

As I mentioned, GIMS is not all about the newest and latest cars on the market. Some companies showed restored classic cars, such as a 300 SL Gullwing brought to pristine condition by Brabus, or the ever-so-stunning RUF CTR Yellowbird, once the record holder for the best time at the Nurburgring. Others brought customized supercars, such as Mansory and their extravagant creations, or Techart and their insane Porsches. It would take a very long time to equivalently document every single car present at the show, therefore I focused on photographing the ones that interested me and focusing on their unique details.
