The iconic design of the car has made it a timeless classic, earning it the admiration of many. To gain insight into what it’s like to own such a trophy vehicle, we sat down with Jake Sherman, a devoted auto aficionado from Antigua with a 905 WHP Supra in his arsenal to see what’s his octane signature.

“The passion started at a young age and has only escalated over the years” states Jake. The fascination came naturally as none of his immediate family members shared the same passion as he did. “I remember the days of begging my father to take me to John-I Race Track, he’d drop me off and leave but that didn’t bother me. I was in my happy place – surrounded by cars.” The passion grew in leaps and bounds, pushing him further and further down the rabbit hole.

“The Supra has always been my favourite 90’s JDM sports car… The package you get; turbocharged inline 6, manual gearbox, RWD, in a beautiful curvy body… It ticks all the boxes.” says Jake.

Purchased in 2014 in Antigua, Jake acquired a completely stock 1994 Toyota Supra RZ (how lucky was he!). Being the desirable RZ spec, it came with all the goodies you’ll want from the factory – TRD LSD, Getrag V160 6-Speed, 2JZ-GTE motor. Since acquisition, a lot has changed. A fully built motor by Mike Speed Performance out of Antigua, Precision turbo on ETS manifold, PHR fuel system, Clutch Masters FX850 clutch, and tuned by Lance on AEM V2. Separate from power, the car sits on BC Racing coilovers, RPF1 wheels, and has an HKS Kansai front lip.

So what’s so special about this particular 2Jz motor you might ask? Well, with a modest (to say the least) 905 WHP & 803 WTQ on E85 with 32LBS of boost, this girl is peppy. She boasts an AEM 12 position trim switch allowing you to adjust boost from a casual 17LBS (550HP) perfect for everyday driving to a ‘slap that idiot in the neck’ – 32LBS (905HP) ready for the track.

When asked what it’s like owning this car in Antigua, Jake simply stated “Not enough road…“, which we would definitely agree. This silver bullet eats the tarmac like a starving dog during mating season. This thing DOES NOT PLAY.

He gave me a ‘lil taste’ of what the Supra had to offer and my mind was blown. Smiles all around the cabin. From gently rolling off in third gear then having your head pinned to the seat while gently easing in 4th, was a ‘WTF’ moment in itself. I had to look down on the shifter to see if my mind was really playing tricks on me. You could tell this car is a well trained Gym rat from how she squats with perfection, and launches with aggression. Mike Speed Performance did the damn thing!

Having the chance to ride along with Jake at the end of our shoot to experience his drive, passion, love and admiration for his family, is something we would never forget. This low key unassuming individual beams with passion and pride for his Supra RZ, walking us through the details of the build. As our photographer William Simpson iterated during the shoot “There’s simply not a bad angle on this beast!“. We surely agree. Do you?
