However, for Colin Hodge, this tropical haven which he calls home has been the backdrop for his automotive passion from since he could remember.

In 2021, he made a bold decision to part ways with his beloved Mitsubishi Evolution IX MR and welcomed a black 2017 Ford Focus RS, (affectionately referred to him as Lady KITT) locally purchased, into his garage. In this issue, we’ll take a closer look at this hot hatch and get a glimpse into Colin’s octane signature.

A Change in Perspective
Colin’s automotive journey took an exciting turn when he decided to replace his recently sold Mitsubishi Evo IX MR. Scouring local market places and having conversations with like minded auto enthusiasts, mention was made about a particular Ford Focus RS which may be up for grabs if his intentions were serious. Serious his intentions were, he made the no brainer move and pocketed the RS with minimal hesitation. The Evolution IX MR had been a cherished part of his life, delivering exhilarating drives and precision handling. However, the allure of the Focus RS’s unique blend of performance, practicality, and style proved irresistible.

The 2017 Ford Focus RS is a striking sight on the streets of Antigua, especially in its sleek black finish. The RS rides on black 19-inch forged alloy wheels that not only look fantastic but also reduce unsprung weight for improved handling.

What truly sets the 2017 Ford Focus RS apart is its blistering performance. Under the hood lies a 2.3-liter EcoBoost turbocharged inline-four engine that produces a jaw-dropping 345 horsepower and 350 lb-ft of torque. However, this Focus is a bit peppier with its Mountune M400 kit power upgrades, which includes a Mountune full exhaust, intercooler intake and flash which added an extra 50hp to the motor, taking the power-band up a few notches to 395hp. Power is sent to all four wheels via a sophisticated all-wheel-drive system, allowing the RS to sprint from 0 to 60 mph in just 4.6 seconds.

The Focus RS also features a driver-selectable Drift Mode, which sends more power to the rear wheels, enabling him to indulge in controlled slides and thrilling drifts, which he doesn’t take advantage of. This feature showcases the car’s playful side, making it equally enjoyable on a twisty country road or a closed circuit.

Driving Experience
Colin describes the driving experience of his Focus RS as “addictive.” The car’s razor-sharp handling, responsive steering, and robust brakes make it a joy to tackle Antigua’s winding roads.
